Bernadette L. Peters, born Bernadette A. Lazzara, born in Ozone Park Queens New York 28 February 1948 is a songwriter/singer and an author of children's books. Her career spans five decades and includes TV, musical theatre as well as solo performances and recording. She's one of Broadway's most well-known performers. Nominated in seven Tony Awards (winning two) She also took home eight Drama Desk Awards. Grammy Awards were won for four Broadway casting albums, in which she performed. Peters first performed on the stage when she was a kid, and later as a teenage actor in the 1960s, and later in films and on television during the 1970s. She was praised for this first work, as well as her roles on The Muppet Show The Carol Burnett Show and other TV shows and also for her role in movies such as Silent Movie The Jerk Pennies from Heaven and Annie. In the 1980s she returned to the theatre where she became one of the top-respected Broadway performers over the following three decades. Peters has released a number of singles in addition to numerous cast albums and performs regularly in solo concert acts. Peters has also continued to appear in television and film in which she was awarded the award of three Emmy Awards and three Golden Globe Awards being awarded at least once.
